No.4 seed Daniil Medvedev reached the Australian Open 2021 finale by extending his winning streak to 20 matches on Friday. However, the ATP finals reigning admits that he doesn’t have much pressure ahead of the No.1 seed Novak Djokovic final blockbuster clash at Melbourne Park.
In the two hours and nine-minute semi-final encounter, the 25-years-old Russian ousted No.5 seed Stefonas Tsitsipas in straight sets(6-4, 6-2, 7-5) into the second Grand Slam final in his career. Notably, Medvedev fired 17 aces, but his opponent from Athens landed just three only.
“I Was Just Working Hard All My Life”, says Daniil Medvedev
World No.4 has defeated 12 top ten players in his 20 matches winning streak. “I don’t have an answer ( to explain my run). I was working hard all my life, and I am pleased with this moment. It is going to stay with me… It is a great achievement,” Medvedev said after defeating World No.6 at Rod Laver Arena.
“Going To Get Out There & Show My Best Tennis”: Medvedev on Facing Djokovic
Moscow’s tennis professional will have to overcome a tennis legend from Belgrade to win his maiden Grand Slam crown at the Australian Open 2021 on Sunday.
Speaking about his second major event final, Medvedev expressed, “I like that I don’t have a lot of pressure because he never lost in the eight times that he was here in the final.”
“It is he who has all the pressure, getting to Roger and Rafa in the Grand Slam (leaderboard). I hope that I am going to get out there and show my best tennis. As we have seen, I can beat some big names if I play well, so that is the main part. He has more experience, but he has more things to lose than me,” the 2020 Paris Masters title winner added.
Having faced each other seven-time so far, Novak Djokovic leads Daniil Medvedev 4-3 in their head to head series. Will we see who makes history at Melbourne Park this year?
