At the age of 34-years-old Spanish tennis legend, Rafael Nadal is playing the highest standard of tennis and making history. At the same time, the 20-time Grand Slam champion admits he did not imagine that he would reach this level in his career.
Spaniard was recently interviewed by the UK’s largest bespoke celebrity magazine. In that Rafael Nadal was asked, did he expect to play tennis until this age with excellency when he was 16-years-old.
Former World No.1 said, “It would be very arrogant of me to say I am achieving what I expected when I was 16. At that age, I only wanted to be a professional tennis player and to win one tournament someday.”
“My Dream Was To Win Wimbledon”: Rafael Nadal
At the age of 16-years-old, Rafael Nadal just had a dream to win a title at the Championships, but he has won 20 Grand Slam titles so far. Spaniard especially was crowned champion for the thirteen times at the French Open and twice at Wimbledon.
Nadal continued, “My dream was to win Wimbledon, and I managed to do that for the first time in 2008. A lot has happened, good results-wise, since that first interview when I was 16, and I have to say I am very thankful for life. I never expected to achieve even half of what I am achieving.”
Nadal is also known as King of Clay in the tennis world. He has claimed 60 out of 86 career titles on the clay courts with more than 90 match win percentages.
On the other hand, Nadal made his nation proud on several occasions in the big stages. While Nadal has managed to win gold twice at the Olympic Games, he has helped the Spanish team to lift the Davis Cup trophy for the five-time.
However, Fans believe Rafa would play many more years, and he would make and break several records.
