Nowadays, it is a usual headline that someone showers praise on none other than the 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer. In a row, the Swiss Maestro was lauded by one of his rivals and former World No.1, Andy Roddick.
Needless to say that the 39-years-old from Basel is a talented tennis player and a record creator. He has won 103 tour-level titles, including twenty major event crowns.
Federer dwelled as a World No.1 for 310 weeks in the ATP ranking board, while he is a six-time title winner at the ATP Finals.
“He’s probably the most talented tennis player. The shots that he can come up with, the way he’s kind of become a totally complete player”, Andy Roddick said in the recent conversation.
Roger Is Just Classy, says Andy Roddick
On the other hand, Swiss is known for his kindness, and a good sense of humor in the men’s game. Reports say that Federer is a sort of person who makes others laugh or is fun to be with his friends.
American continued, “I think off the court. It’s huge. He is just classy. He is never high and mighty in the locker room.”
However, the Federer and Roddick rivalry was one-sided and ranked as the 14th largest rivalry in the Open Era. They have faced each other on 24 occasions in the ATP Tour, but Andy just defeated Roger three times.
In the Grand Slam event finals, Roddick never beat Federer. He lost thrice in Wimbledon(2004, 2005, and 2009) and once in the US Open(2006). Notably, 2009 Wimbledon final may be a remarkable match in their rivalry.
In the 4 hours and 17 minutes championship battle, Roger Federer overcame Andy Roddick in the five-setters, especially the decider went up to 30 games.
With the help of a historic win, Federer lifted his 15th major title and surpassed Pete Sampras in all-time Grand Slam record(14).
