Casper Ruud is a right-handed professional tennis player from Norway. Oslo’s six-foot man is the first Norwegian to win the ATP title and reach the semifinals at the ATP Masters 1000 events.
Casper Ruud was born on 22nd December 1998 in Oslo, Norway. His parent’s father, Christian Rudd and mother, Lele Cathrine, and siblings Caroline and Charlotte. He began playing tennis as a 4-year-old, and his home club is Snaroya Tennisclub. Spaniard Rafael Nadal was Norwegian’s childhood idol.
Ruud likes to play golf and watch the NHL, and his favourite hockey team is Tampa Bay Lightning. In his junior career, he was ranked No.1 in the world.
Casper Ruud’s ATP Career
Casper Ruud turned professional player in 2016. A few days after, he won his first professional title at the Paguera, Spain Futures in February 2016. As a wildcard entrant, Norwegian reached the first ATP 500 event’s semifinal at the 2017 Rio Open and made ATP Masters 1000 event main draw debut in the 2017 Miami Open.
As a qualifier, Ruud made his Grand Slam main draw during the 2018 Australian Open. After reaching the semi-final at the 2019 Brazil Open, he broke into the top 100 in the ATP ranking for the first time in his career. At the time, he was ranked No.94 in the world.
2020 was a wonderful year in Casper Ruud’s career. Because he dived into the top 50 in January and top 25 in September. Ruud became the first highest-ranked player and first ATP tour-level title winner from Norway after claiming the 2020 Buenos Aires title.
Subsequently, he surpassed his father and coach Christian Ruud, who ranked No.39 globally after attaining the 1995 Bastad final. Junior Ruud reached the first ATP Masters 1000 semifinal at the Italian Open.
In 2021, Ruud reached the fourth round at the Australian Open. It was his career-best performance in the Grand Slam events. He played his second ATP Masters 1000 semifinal at the Monte Carlo Masters and claimed one of his career-best victories against World No.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Mutua Madrid Open.

Casper Ruud’ father is former Norwegian professional tennis player Christian Ruud. He competed in the ATP tournaments from 1991 to 2001. During that period, he reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and quarterfinal of the Monte Carlo Masters in 1997.
Christian Ruud reached a career-high ATP World No. 39 singles ranking on 9th October 1995. He represented his nation three consecutive times at the Olympic Games and is now coaching his son, none other than Casper Ruud.
