World No.1 Novak Djokovic aims to win his 21st Grand Slam at the US Open 2021 to complete the Calendar Slam for the first time since Rod Laver in 1969. Subsequently, he would pass his great rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the most Grand Slam winner in the men’s tennis circuit.
When asked about Serb’s record-breaking 21st Grand Slam title in the pre-tournament interview, World No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas revealed Novak Djokovic is an example of dedication and commitment.
Greek further said, “Respect for him. He’s an example of someone who commits himself a lot to the game and tries to get the best possible out of it.”
“I really wish for me to maybe one day be at that level of consistency and be able to dominate Grand Slams at such a level,” Tsitsipas expressed.
“It is something that comes with time. I think he has learned throughout the years how to preserve his best strengths and kind of expose them at the right moment, at the right time,” Stef added.
However, top seed Novak Djokovic begins the 21st Grand Slam campaign against qualifier Holger Rune. On the flip side, No.3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will face the former World No.1 Andy Murray in the opening round at the US Open 2021.
Notably, Serbian could meet Greek in the championship match in New York this year.
