After winning the first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open last year, Sofia Kenin broke into the top ten for the very first time. However, the 22-years-old American said she once again seeks World No.1 Novak Djokovic‘s advice to defend her title at Happy Slam.
World No.4 Sofia Kenin will kick start the 2021 season through the new WTA 500 event Abu Dhabi Women’s Tennis Open, which considers a warm-up tournament ahead of the Down under major event.
When speaking about defending her title at the Melbourne major event in an interview ahead of Abu Dhabi WTA Tour, the French Open runner-up said, “I definitely think I can talk to Novak… I think that will be helpful since we are both defending champions.”
The 33-years-old Serb is primarily known for his hard court tennis, and he is the most title(8) winner of the Aussie Open.
“Djokovic Did Give Me Great Advice Ahead of The 2020 Australian Open Final”, says Sofia Kenin
At the 2020 Australian Open, the 14-seeded Sofia Kenin reached the championship match after defeating rising star Coco Gauff, Tunisian No.1 Ons Jabeur and top-seeded Ashleigh Barty.
In the event final, Kenin conquered two-time Grand Slam winner Garbine Muguruza after a set down.
Russian born-American continued, “He(Djokovic) did give me great advice ahead of the final (last year) since we were practising next to each other.”
“He(Nole) came up to me, and he was really nice about it and told me some things before the final, which was special because I was crazy nervous. He told me some things which I will not disclose since I would rather keep it a secret,” Kenin added.
It would be nice to see a mentor and follower defend their title at the 2021 Australian Open, which occurs from 8th February to 21st February.
