Swiss Maestro Roger Federer is a source of inspiration for many in the tennis world and meeting him would be a dream for his followers. Like RF, Romanian tennis ace Simona Halep has been one of the best players in the women’s circuit in the recent decade. However, two-time Grand Slam Champion opened up her inaugural meeting with one of most major title winners in the men’s circuit.
Simona Halep made her debut in Junior Grand Slam events in 2007. While participating at the championships in SW19, Romanian had an opportunity to meet one of the greatest tennis players of all-time, none other than Roger Federer.
“I was at Wimbledon in 2007, I went to the training grounds, I had the junior badge, and I went to the connection to leave a racket, I saw him there, I froze,” Simona Halep said in a recent conversation with Digi sport.
Constanța-born continued, “I didn’t know how to react and handed him the badge, asked him if he could give me an autograph.”
“Roger Was Very Warm and Gave Me A Very Pleasant Feeling”, says Simona Halep
Once upon a time in the tennis world, Romanian players were famous for the clay court surface, but since Simona entered into the circuit, she has been rewriting history.
In 2019, Seventh-seeded Simona Halep claimed her second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon after a set down.
World No.2 also detailed conversation with eight-time Wimbledon champion. Halep added, “And then he asked me what I was doing there, how I was, I told him that I like tennis, that I’m at Wimbledon and I’m glad it’s there, I had never seen a grass field before.”
Describing her understanding of Roger Federer’s Nature, Simona said, “He was very warm and gave me a very pleasant feeling. Even though he was very famous and very good in our sport, he talked to me and wished me well.”
