Charleston Invitational Tennis Day 2, Captain Mattek-Sands Helps Team Peace Get Lead

Rain once again halted the proceedings of The Credit One Bank tournament in Charleston. However, it didn’t curtail Team Peace lead over Team Kindness 3-2. Of the 12 players scheduled to compete on Day 2. But due to continuous rain, only six were able to complete a match.

The non-official Women’s event hosted in green clay courts of charleston on Wednesday. Team Peace captain Bethanie Mattek Sands defeated Monica Puig in straight sets (6-1, 6-3). It was the final complete match on day 2. As a result, Team Peace ahead 3-2. Before that Amanda Anisimova leveled for Team Kindness with victory over Danielle Collins 7-5, 6-4.

Team Peace started the day with a win of Ajla Tomljanovic, She defeated Selby Rogers by 6-1, 6-2. As a consequence, Mattek Sands team ahead of 2-1 on the scoreboard. But Amanda Anisimova fought hard against Danielle Collins, to level the scoreboard.

“Once I got out there I kind of calmed my rhythm and was going for my shots more,” said Anisimova. “I was definitely nervous yesterday because, you know, I didn’t want to let my team down, and I’m playing for them too. I got some more practice today and I came out playing really well” said 18-year-old Anisimova, who was last year the French Open Semi-Finalist.

Team Kindness Monica Puig’s First Match Since Last October

Charleston tennis courts have opened for the competitive tennis actions since Mid-March. Moreover, the Rio Olympic Games Gold medalist Monica Puig has appeared in the tennis courts after a long time.

First doubles match of the tournament managed to take the court later in the evening, where Team Peace’s Danielle Collins and Eugenie Bouchard captured the first set from Amanda Anisimova and Sloane Stephens, 6-4.
