Bethanie Mattek Sands captained Team Peace has arrived near to victory line in Charleston women’s invitational tennis tournament. After the fifth day result on Saturday, Team Peace got a 7 point lead against Madison Keys led Team Kindness. World No.48 Jennifer Brady third win in this week and second singles victory extending Team Peace’s lead to 20-13.
The non-official women’s event Team Peace started the day with 14-10 lead and all matches of the day worth for three points. Team Kindness captain Madison Keys gave her team to an amazing start with a victory against Australian Open Champion Sofia Kenin. Madison Keys beat compatriot 6-3, 5-7, 10-2.
“It’s not so much pressure, I kind of embrace it. I played two years of college tennis. I know what it’s like to play for somebody other than yourself.” said Madison Keys after the match.
Eventually, Mattek-Sands Team concluded the day with two hard-fought victories. In the doubles match, Caroline Dolehide and Ajla Tomljanovic defeated Leylah Fernandez and Monica Puig by a score of 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2).
In the next match, Jennifer Brady beat the 2017 US Open Champion Sloane Stephens by 6-2, 7-6 (4). Although, Mattek-Sands and Team Kindness’s Shelby Rogers match has postponed to Sunday due to rain.
Team Kindness Still Have The Chance To Win The Event
Not all is over for Team Kindness. Madison Keys’ team still has the chance to win the tournament. Each win on the final day is also worth three points. If Team Kindness fights with full strength, have a chance to overcome the deficit.
If Mattek-Sands defeats Shelby Rogers, Team Kindness needs to win all four doubles matches. On the other hand, If Rogers wins, Team Kindness needs to win three of four doubles matches to win the tournament.
