The women’s tennis association, a governing body of worldwide professional tennis tour for women announced WTA Tour suspended until May 2 due to coronavirus pandemic.
In addition, upcoming Clay court tournaments in Istanbul, Stuttgart and Prague will not be held as scheduled in this year as a consequence of COVID-19 expansion.
Women’s tennis association Statement
WTA Spokesperson said on Monday – “Due to the ongoing global coronavirus outbreak, the WTA tournaments in Stuttgart, Istanbul and Prague will not be held as scheduled.”
“ We regret this is the case for all of our loyal fans, players, sponsors and all those who support women’s professional tennis.”
“At this point in time, the WTA Tour is now suspended until 2 May. We will make a decision in the week ahead regarding the remaining WTA European clay court events and will continue to monitor this situation closely and its impact on the 2020 Tour season.”
In the beginning, 2020 BNP Paribas Open(Indian Wells) which is the first premier mandatory tournament of the year and her sister’s tournament Miami Open(second premier mandatory tournament) were cancelled by reason of coronavirus disease.
Furthermore, Guadalajara of Mexico, Bogota of Colombia and Volvo Car Open in Charleston, United States were cancelled on account of COVID- 19 explosions. Monterrey Open might be the last tournament of the first quarter of 2020
Although, those cancellations and postponements will make a loss for tennis world however health is the first priority.
