“Dismantled My Game”: Novak Djokovic Reacts After Straight Set Loss Against Dan Evans at Monte Carlo Masters 2021

World No.1 Novak Djokovic was disappointed after losing this season’s first match against British Dan Evans in straight sets at the ongoing ATP Masters 1000 event in Monaco. In the post-match interview, Serb admits that today was not favoured to him like yesterday.  

Following a nearly two months break, Djokovic returned to the circuit at the Monte Carlo Masters 2021. No.1 seed from Serbia claimed his this year’s first victory on clay court after defeating Italian NextGen Jannik Sinner without dropping a set in the opening round. 

“He’s(Dan Evans) Very Unpredictable With His Shots”: Novak Djokovic 

According to forecasting, the two-time former champion was favourite to win a match against the unseeded Dan Evans to reserve his spot at the quarterfinal on the Mediterranean sea bank. 

Unfortunately, Djokovic made 45 unforced errors and four double faults because of unfavourable conditions to conclude his this year’s campaign in Monte Carlo Country Club.   

“Today was completely the opposite of what I felt yesterday. Just was obviously very, very windy, tough to play in these kinds of conditions against a guy like Evans who makes you move. He’s very unpredictable with his shots. He dismantled my game”, Djokovic said after a third-round match.

Novak emphasised that it was one of the disgusting executions over the few years. And he also showered praise on his opponent Dan Evans.

Serb continued, “Congratulations to him. He was the better player. It was probably one of the worst performances from my side in the last few years. I felt awful on the court. I should have done much better, no positives from this match. It feels bitter leaving the court like this.”

In the end, Novak Djokovic has a win-loss record of 10-1 in 2021. According to his this year’s schedule, he will next compete at the Serbian Open 2021. In the ATP tour calendar, Belgrade 250 clay-court event runs from 19th to 25th April.
