“I Cannot Wait To Finish Strongly In London”: Novak Djokovic Remains Confident After Loss At Vienna Open 2020

Novak Djokovic came to Vienna after 13 years to secure his position at the top in the year-end. However, the world number one will have to wait formally because of his loss to the Italian Lorenzo Sonego.

Additionally, the Italian defeated Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals by 6-2, 6-1, and booked a place for himself in the semi-final. Also, this was one of the most significant defeats for the Serbian. And this excellent performance by Sonego stunned the 17-times Grand Slam winner.

Additionally, Djokovic never refrained from talking about his reason to come to Vienna, Austria’s capital city. He is chasing the record of Pete Sampras of ending 6th year as the top player in the world. However, the wait for Djokovic is yet not over because of this unexpected defeat.

The 25-year-old Italian played one of his best games of the career, and the unforced errors by Djokovic made it easier for Sonego to win the match. 

The 33-yeard old went ahead in a press conference after the match. Talking about the game, Djokovic clearly said that the thought of getting the number one position affected him. Additionally, he said, “I accomplished what I needed by coming here.”

While the game turned out to be pretty bad for the Serbian, he said that the game doesn’t affect him. Additionally, he said, “And I am moving on with today’s result.”

Speaking about his health and fitness, the Serbian feels about himself. He added, “I am in good health. And I cannot wait to finish strongly in London.’

Besides, talking about the match, Djokovic had all the appreciation for his opponent. And Serb said that Italian deserved to win. “It was a pretty bad match from my side, but amazing from his side”, Djokovic added.
