Simona Halep qualified for the finals of the Italian Open 2020. It is the third consecutive WTA finals on the season. Romanian reached the finals at the Dubai and Prague tournaments earlier this year. However, Halep admits she could be more aggressive when she needed to achieve something on the court.
It was the most anticipated match in the ongoing Italian Open because the contestants are former world number one and two-time Grand Slam champions. Nevertheless, the current world number two Simona Halep bested Garbine Muguruza, after a set down. The tight match was concluded in two hours and 16 minutes and a score of (6-3, 4-6, 6-4).
After the match, Simona Halep said in the press conference, “Against Muguruza she’s a very, very difficult player and a good player. It’s always a good vibe and a good feeling when I win against her. I know I had so many chances to maybe finish the match a little bit faster and easier, but she doesn’t give up’’
Additionally, Romanian praised her opponent Spaniard, “Credit to her that she fought till the end. I am happy that I was a little bit stronger in the end and I could be more aggressive when I needed to.”
“Thank God I Don’t Play Svitolina”- Simona Halep Hopes For Her First Italian Open Title
While Halep has now reserved her place third time at the Italian Open finals, she was defeated by Elina Svitolina in the last two finals in 2017 and 2018.
“It’s my third final. Thank God I don’t play Svitolina because I lost two times against her” Halep said with a smile.
For her Dream title, Simona Halep will now face defending champion Karolina Pliskova in the tournament finals on Monday(21st September).
