“It Is How You Finish, Right?” – Serena Williams after an Epic Comeback in The Quarter Finals

Sometimes, it is not the number of shots that you played well, but also about the timing of those shots. While Serena Williams had already lost the first set by 4-6, she raced back to her golden form, only to win the match by 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Tsvetana Pironkova. 

Additionally, she marches to the semi-finals of the US Open. Moreover, this will be her 11th on the run appearance in the semi-finals at the Flushing Meadows.

After the match, she said, “It is not how you start. It is how you finish, right?” Additionally, the former world number one is chasing her record-tying 24th Grand Slam singles title in this tournament. She will be tying Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam wins.

The world number eight also said, “In the beginning, I was a little fatigued, for whatever reason. Obviously I cannot do that if I want to keep winning. So I need to figure that out.”

“It Is Unbelievable”- Serena On Pironkova’s Return

Besides, Serena also had praise for her opponent who was playing her first big tournament in a period of three years. Additionally, she took a break from tours to become a mother.

“It is unbelievable. Wow. I could not even do that”, Serena said about Pironkova’s amazing return to the tennis court.

Serena also spoke about being a mother and managing tennis at the same time. She said, “It just shows me how tough moms are. Whenever you can give birth to a baby, honestly, you can do anything.”

“You can play a match and you go home and you are still changing diapers”, Serena said. Additionally, Serena’s daughter, Olympia is only 3 now, Pirankova’s son is 2.

She added, “It is like a double life. It is really surreal.” 

Pironkova after the match said, “She definitely played like the champion she is.” She also added, “I tried everything.  I was in control of the first set. I was doing all kinds of shots. But, you know, I was expecting that it is not going to last forever.”

Now, Serena will play against Victoria Azarenka in the semi-final on Thursday.
