The Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has been living with his family back home since he last played in February, due to the coronavirus. He decided not to play in the US Open as well as the French open 2020.
It looks like Kyrgios had a great time at the family house, having his mother’s home cooking and spending time with family.
And after some much-needed rest and recovery for all these months, the Australian says he’s gearing up for a big 2021. The 25-year-old is hoping to remain healthy and compete to the best of his ability once he is back. He wishes to play well not only to win but also to be able to support his foundation.
“Fingers crossed my body stays healthy so I can compete and be out there and play well. And that means I can continue to help and use my platform. The better I play, I can continue to help with my foundation [The NK Foundation], and that’s what fuels me.” Kyrgios told to ESPN.
“Just To Be Happy, That’s The Goal”: Nick Kyrgios
Nick has a foundation called the NK Foundation that aspires to create a safe place where underprivileged youth can play the sport they dream about and take shelter if needed. They provide children with tennis courts, basketball courts, a pool, a gym, and dorms to give refuge to children that don’t have access to play the sport they desire.
Kyrgios went on to talk about his desire to play tennis and his drive behind playing well. He spoke about how he does not always play to win or for the title but focused on the cause.
“Just to be happy, that’s the goal. I’m not a results-based guy like I wasn’t playing for me [at the Australian Open], I was playing for the bushfires. As long as my mind is in the right place, I think everything else will follow.”, added Nick.
