“Sadness Haunted Me”: Alexander Zverev Reveals Disappointments of US Open Final After Winning Title at ATP 250 Cologne

Alexander Zverev, the German tennis star, finally won his first title of the season when he defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in Cologne ATP 250 final. Additionally, it was a moment of comfort for the world number 7, who lost Dominic Thiem in the US Open final earlier.

Talking about his loss in New York, Zverev said that it was a tough final. Additionally, he was very disappointed. Zverev said, “That sadness haunted me for days. Finally, I was able to concentrate. I said to myself that in the next final, I will give it all.” In addition to this, Zverev, after winning the title, said, “Today I did it. And I am very happy to celebrate it.”

In the post-match conference, Zverev also talked about playing without spectators. He explained, “Despite not having spectators in the stands, I felt a lot of support.” Besides, Zverev hoped that people would have watched the match on their televisions. Additionally, also mentioning about this victory.

He also explained, “I think I have played only three tournaments that were not Grand Slams in 2020.” Zverev mentioned this incident as a very atypical one.

Besides, the German also mentioned that everyone wished to play more tennis. But even he said that the conditions are very complicated. “We will see if the situation improves as the months go by. And in the next year, we will have many more tournaments on the calendar”, said Zverev.
