Former world number one Victoria Azarenka has qualified for the US Open finals after defeating Serena Williams in the previous round. However, Belarusian will now face fourth-seeded Naomi Osaka in the event’s finals on Saturday.
While the 31-years-old Azarenka did not play in the Australian Open owing to persona reason, the two-times Grand Slam winner made her comeback at the Top Seed Open 2020 followed by a tennis tour lay-off. Additionally, She was defeated by old rival Venus Williams in the first round.
Later, Belarusian was played in the Western and Southern Open 2020 where she won her first WTA singles title since 2016, after Naomi Osaka’s withdrawal due to hamstring injury.
Azarenka entered into the 2020 US Open as an unseeded player. However, She reached the event finals after defeating four seeded players in her fixtures. While Victoria beat countrywoman and fifth-seeded Aryna Sabalenka in the round of 64, Leo’s Mother overcame Olympia’s mum Serena Williams in the semifinals after losing the first set.
“She’s(Naomi Osaka) a Great Champion”- Victoria Azarenka
Naomi Osaka and Victoria Azarenka will be played fifth time in the US Open 2020 finals.
While both of them are equal to each other in head to head(2-2), the Japanese defeated the Belarusian in the three sets at the Roland Garros in Paris last year.
In the post-match interview, the World No.27 Azarenka said ahead of the finals against world number nine Osaka, “Very excited about that. I’m as excited as I was last week. I’m sure this time we’re going to get to play and it’s going to be a great match. I think it’s going to be an amazing final. I hope it will be. I’ll have fun.”
Additionally, She added, “But she’s a very, very powerful player. She’s a great champion. She’s won two already. Aren’t we both looking for a third one? It will be fun (smiling).”
