Vasek Pospisil has been working along with Novak Djokovic to form a new association(PTPA) for tennis players. Meanwhile, the 30-years-old Canadian admitted Nadal and Federer did not understand what they are doing right now.
In a recent interview with tennis majors.com, World No.72 Pospisil talked over the new body formation and its future hopes and dreams.
Former doubles Wimbledon champion Vasek explained, “The main reason for the PTPA child is just a continuous 30-year struggle that the players have, in which we feel that we have no representation. We are not a unified voice, we cannot affect any decision that involves our livelihoods and our lives.”
“The big question is the structure of the ATP. The idea was always to try to create a players association, that was always the plan. We want to unite and not fight.” added Pospisil, who reached the fourth round at the 2020 US Open first time in his career.
“Federer and Nadal are Not Tennis”- Vasek Pospisil
While Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have disagreed with Djokovic and Pospisil’s breakaway association, Co-president believes that PTPA can move forward despite their supports.
Additionally, Pospisil went on to say, “It is bad for us not to have their support, but I think from their statements, they did not understand what we are doing. Historically, Nadal has been very vocal on these issues and I hope I can count on him at least, but Federer and Nadal are not tennis.”
“There are only two players. They often receive too much credit for how big they are in the sport. But can’t we unify tennis if 500 people are in favor and the two of them are against it? Sure we can. Tennis is much bigger than Federer and Nadal.”, the former World No.25 concluded.
