Novak Djokovic vs Dominic Thiem

Novak Djokovic will lock horns with Dominic Thiem in the semi-final clash of the Nitto ATP Finals 2020 on Saturday.

He comes off a clinical win over Alexander Zverev in a must-win match earlier in the day. Meanwhile, Thiem managed to book a spot in the last-four after his wins over Stefanos Tsitsipas and Rafael Nadal.

It will be an intriguing contest, to say the least. While Djokovic has had to play smart and percentage tennis, Thiem has literally blasted his way to the top of the group.

It can easily be a clash between the flexible approach that the Serb employs against the expansive groundstrokes hitting abilities of the Austrian.

Dominic Thiem

Thiem has shown great court coverage in the tournament. He has totally looked the part in the first two matches, barring the third, where he lost to Andrey Rublev.

On the other hand, Djokovic- the top seed, will go into the match with an impressive 41-4 Win-Loss record this year. He has amassed four titles in 2020 and surely knows a thing or two about winning big matches.

Djokovic and Thiem will be up against each other for the 12th time. World No.1 leads the battle 7-4. The Australian Open earlier in the year saw the 33-year-old take the match in a five-set victory(6–4, 4–6, 2–6, 6–3, 6–4).

However, the US Open 2020 champion, Thiem, would like to draw confidence from the win he had in the 2019 season at the ATP Finals.

Both the players have had a contrasting course to make it to the semi-final stage. While Thiem has made good use of his form, Djokovic has got the better of players with his tactical play.

The Austrian admitted being low on intensity against Rublev after his sapping first two encounters. He, however, will be well rested and fresh going into the clash with a day off.

On the other hand, the Serb will have to recover and show up on court after having played against Zverev only yesterday.

Djokovic might have an edge just because of his wealth of experience. However, Theim has done well to earn his spot.

This match has all the makings to go right down to the wire.
