Romanian Simona Halep storms her way into the second round of the Prague Open 2020. She defeated the Slovenia tennis professional Polona Hercog by 6-1,1-6,7-6 (3) in the first round of the tournament.
However, it was never an easy match for the former world number one. It was a rustic start, but she finally managed to win it.
Additionally, the Prague Open 2020 is the first tournament for the Romanian after the pandemic break. She skipped the Palermo Ladies Open, which took place last week.
Besides, her last match was in the Dubai Tennis Championships back in February. Additionally, she also won her 20th WTA singles title in the same tournament as well. Later, Romanian did not participate in the WTA tours due to a right leg injury.
After winning the first round Simona told in a news conference, “I am happy because I could win after a six-month break.” In addition to this, she also said, “I felt the tension in my back after the first set. Even though it was short and I played well.”
“Emotionally It Is Not Easy”- Simona Halep On Conditions During Pandemic
Moreover, she also said, “After the second set I started to feel tired. But I knew she too was in the same position. Hence, I decided to stick to the plan and fight. The fighting helped me to win the match. Sometimes it is good to call it a good match. But I do not wish for the next one to play for three hours.”
Halep also talked about the challenges players and staff are going through during pandemic. She added, “Emotionally it is not easy. But we have to adjust. We are living in tough times. I am all in and respect everything.”
