In the first semifinals, 26-years-old Anna-Lena Friedsam beat the 7th seed Daria Kasatkina of Russia(6-3, 3-6, 6-2 ) to reaches the first finalist of the first edition of the Lyon Open in France.

The third meeting, the German conquered the ranked 73rd in the world Kasatkina. The Right-handed player lodged her first WTA singles final since 2016 San Antonio Open, United States.

She won the 65 per cent of 1st Serve points and saved  57 percent of breakpoints. Nevertheless, Kasatkina served 76 percent of 1st Serve and who made the six double faults. The Unseeded Friedsam took 2 hours and five minutes to lash out the Russian from the tournament. 

World No.5 Sofia Kenin reaches the second final of the year in Lyon Open

In the second semifinals, It was a tight match. The American defeated the 5th seed Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium (7-65, 62-7, 7-62).  Nevertheless, Van Uytvac who ranked 62nd in the world won 79 percent of 1st serve points and 22 Aces. However, 21-years-old Sofia Kenin beat the Belgian in the second time of her career at the fourth meetings.

Although, It will be the first meeting between the world No.5 Sofia Kenin and the unseeded Friedsam in the first edition of Lyon Open 2020 final.
