World number two Rafael Nadal claimed his first victory at the ATP Finals 2020. Spaniard crushed one of the best players of the season Andrey Rublev in the straight sets(6-3, 6-4) in a group stage match. However, Rafa will now face US Open Champion Dominic Thiem, who beat defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas in his fixture.

After a comfortable victory against 23-years-old Russian, Spanish said, “I think I played a smart match, so I’m pretty happy with this victory.” The 20-times Grand Slam Champion emphasised the opponent(Rublev), and the match was tough for him for many reasons. Eventually, Rafa said that he was satisfied with his game against Rublev.

World number two also had all appreciation for his next round opponent. Rafael Nadal explained Thiem is a great player and a hard worker. He also highlighted the world number three player is improving his game every year.

Rafa said of Domi, “Great guy, so I’m super happy for him to watch him win his first Grand Slam and he deserves it. He’s one of the guys on the Tour that really deserves the success because he’s a very hard worker.”

Nadal leads Dominic Thiem in the head to head record 9-5, and the match will be a repetition of Australian Open 2020 quarterfinal. Undoubtedly Rafa will not seek revenge, but he would try to play his best.

Spaniard continued, “For me, [it’s] going to be a tough one. Hopefully for him, too. “I’m going to try to be ready for it. It’s going to be a big challenge, but I really hope the victory of today [will] help me with that match. And tomorrow I have a day off to practise, to keep working the way that I need, and I hope to be ready for it.”
