In a recent interview with Sport Express, the world number eight Rublev reminisced plenty of things in his career. Speaking about his victory over 20-times Grand Slam champion Roger Federer at the last year’s Cincinnati masters, he said, “Of course it was incredible, especially when I shook his hand at the end of the match and he congratulated me.”
“But at that time, I wasn’t very high in the standings. I was far from my level today. Many of my “conscripts” were higher than me. Even younger guys like Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alex de Minaur had more convincing results. Let’s not talk about Stefanos Tsitsipas, who was already firmly in the top 10. at the time.
