“Watch A Couple More Matches of Hers”- Naomi Osaka Confident Ahead of Shelby Rogers clash at US Open

Former world number one Naomi Osaka reached the US Open quarterfinals second time in her career. She defeated Anett Kontaveit in the round of 16 after losing only seven games(6-3, 6-4). Two-times Grand Slam champion also spoke about her upcoming match against Shelby Rogers in the post-match interview. 

While the 2018 US Open Champion Japanese expects a huge challenge from 27-years-old American, Osaka reveals her preparation strategy for the upcoming match as well. 

The 22-years-old Naomi also went on to talk over her easy win against Estonian Anett Kontaveit. Additionally, She said, “Yeah, I mean, for me, I feel like the most important thing that I wanted to do was start being really positive from the get-go, like the sort of overwhelming her in a since. I think I did that fairly well.”

“Compared to the last match I played here in Cincinnati, the first game was good, but I was a bit moody. I wasn’t that focused on the match. For me, it was really important, like, the turnaround time and my attitude to be very positive,” the highest-paid female athlete in the world Naomi Osaka added.

The US Open 2020 last eight matches would be the fourth time clash between Naomi Osaka and Shelby Rogers.

According to records, American leads the Japanese in head to head(3-0). But, It happened before 2018 when Naomi did not capture a single title in the WTA Tours. Now, everything has changed and she has registered a lot of victories against top ten players, including two Grand Slam title win.

World No.09 Naomi Osaka said, “Honestly, I just remember playing Shelby in Charleston. I don’t know, it feels like such a long time ago. I have to definitely watch a couple more matches of hers. And I watched her toward the end of the Kvitova match. But I’ll have to talk to Wim about it.”

“Yeah, I have Alzheimer’s. I had a hard time remembering how to play Anett today. I don’t remember.”, Osaka added.

In conclusion, Naomi expects from her next match opponent, “Of course, it’s going to be challenging. She’s in the quarters of a slam. She’s a great player. If I remember, using what’s little left of my brain right now, I think she has great service and she’s a good returner. But I have to study.”
