“Can’t-Wait To Play”: Simona Halep Departs For Miami Open 2021 With Full Confidence

Ahead of the Miami Open 2021, the former World No.1 Simona Halep has boarded the United States’ flight after more than a year. Before checking in, the Romanian said that she hopes to play well and can’t wait to play a few matches in Southeastern Florida. 

In the past season, the two time Grand Slam champion skipped the US Open series due to heath risk. Following the French Open, Halep announced that she was tested positive for the Coronavirus.

Since the beginning of 2021, Simona had not in good shape due to back pain. But, she is now confident about the rest of the season.

“I’m calmer (after vaccination), I got the virus, so I feel more comfortable than in August, and that’s why I’m going to the United States. It was a pretty long break, but I felt good at home. I trained after all my physical problems, and now I can’t wait to play a few matches. I hope to play well,” Halep stated before leaving for Miami.

“I Know We’ll Be In The ‘Bubble’ And I’m OK”, says Simona Halep  

Romanian also gave an update over the Coronavirus vaccination, which she took for the first time a few weeks ago. 

Halep continued, “I didn’t have any side effects. I was glad I didn’t have anything because I had some emotions before, but I didn’t feel anything. I did the recall two days earlier. I asked if there was a risk or if it was wrong, and they said no, that between 19 and 21 days, you could do the rappelling. Wimbledon reigning champion further emphasised that she doesn’t know over United State’s COVID-19 protocols, but she is ready for everything. 

“I don’t know much about the restrictions there, but I know we’ll be in the ‘bubble’ and I’m OK with that because I’ve been to all the tournaments so far, except for a few days in I can’t say I have a big problem, it’s not comfortable, but it will be OK,” Halep added.

Miami Open 2021, a WTA 1000 event, is scheduled from 23rd March to 3rd April.
