The 2021 WTA season began with a brand new tournament a few days ago in Abu Dhabi. Therein, American rising star Coco Gauff and Greek ace Maria Sakkari will face each other for a third-round place on Saturday.

Since the 2019 Wimbledon championships, Gauff is dazzling as one of the Women’s tennis circuits’ best youngest players.

Hoping for a good season, World No.48 Coco Gauff registered her first victory of the new season following a straight-set(6-1, 6-0) win over World No.260 Ulrikke Eikeri. The 16-year-old also fired three aces and won 83% first-serve points against the 28-years-old Norwegian ITF star.

On the other hand, Sakkari broke into the top 20 after reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open last year.

After having a successful season in 2020, 9th seeded Maria Sakkari opened her new year victory account after steering past Russian professional Anastasia Potapova without losing a set(6-4, 6-2). And Greek served seven perfect aces and won 90% first-serve point against a 19-years-old rising star.

Coco Gauff vs Maria Sakkari: Head-To-Head

They met once in the WTA tour so far. Maria Sakkari leads Coco Gauff in the head 2 head after a straight-set win(6-1,6-3) at the 2020 Western and Southern Open.

Coco Gauff vs Maria Sakkari: Prediction

Maria Sakkari is known for her aggressive style of play, and her power serves, and consistency shots are Greek’s biggest weapons, which have an ability to scare Coco Gauff. On the other hand, American would force Maria Sakkari to make errors with her defensive style of play, great court coverage, and fearless attitude.

Although Sakkari is a favourite to win because of her strong serves, Gauff has an ability to take a second-round match until decider set.

Match Prediction: Maria Sakkari to win in the three sets(2-1).
