Coco Gauff vs Ons Jabeur: Preview

2021 has been a fantabulous year for teenage sensation Coco Gauff so far. She has won her second WTA Tour-level title at the Emilia Romagna Open and reached a career-high ranking of World No.25 on 24th May.

However, the American rising star entered into Roland Garros this year as a seeded player. Gauff has not lost a single set on the Parisian clay till her last match. No.24 seed attained the Round of 16 after overcoming Serbian qualifier Aleksandra Krunic, Chinese Wang Qiang, and Jennifer Brady’s withdrawal.

On the other hand, Tunisian No.1 Ons Jebeur has had a turbulent season in 2021. But, she significantly managed to reach Musc Health Women’s Open final and Volvo Car Open semifinal in Charleston. And Ons reached her career-high ranking of World No.24 on 10th May.

No.25 seed sealed her pre-quarterfinal place in Roland Garros after dismissing Kazakh Putintseva and Australian Astra Sharma in straight sets and three sets hard-fought against Polish Magda Linette.

Coco Gauff vs Ons Jabeur: Head-To-Head

Gauff and Jebeur have met three times on the WTA Tour so far. American leads Tunisian 2-1 in their head-to-head series.

In the last meeting, Jabeur defeated Gauff in straight sets(6-3, 6-3) at the 2021 Volvo Car Open quarter-final in Charleston.

Coco Gauff vs Ons Jabeur: Prediction

Gauff has a win-loss record of 15-3 in the clay-court swing and upset top players like Aryna Sabalenka and Maria Sakkari in her previous matches.

Jabeur has won 13 out of 16 matches and thrashed Coco Gauff and Sloane Stephens on the red dirt on the flip side.

American must be consistent on the serve with a decrease in the double faults to make her Grand Slam quarterfinal debut. At the same time, Tunisian needs to focus on the second serve and court coverage to confirm her place for the second time in the major event’s last eight round.

However, Coco Gauff has more chances to become the winner of this battle because of her recent tremendous performance on clay.

Match Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in three sets.
