Following a three-set comeback victory over Caroline Garcia, the former World No.1 Simona Halep revealed that she has been suffering from a right shoulder injury since the first round of the Australian Open. Consequently, Romanian withdrew from the Miami Open 2021 because of none other than the same shoulder issue.
At the Miami Garden, No.3 seed from Constanta claimed her 400th WTA main draw victory after a head-to-head battle against French Caroline Garcia in the opening round.
‘I’m very sorry I have to pull out of singles and doubles at the Miami Open, but my injury doesn’t let me play here as I expected,” the two-time Grand Slam champion stated.

Halep’s third-round opponent Anastasija Sevastova directly qualified into the next round and will meet Ana Konjuh for a quarter-final spot. Romanian stressed she came to Miami this year, intending to play much more matches.
Simona continued, “I’m sad that I can’t continue, I wanted to come here to give my best and play many matches, but unfortunately, I can’t.” She also underlined she would come back to Miami next year if she feels fit and better. “Hopefully, next year, I will be back healthy and better,” Halep added.
Wimbledon reigning champion also expressed her gratitude towards Miami tournament organisers.“I want to say a huge thank you to the Miami Open organisers and the WTA for all their efforts in staging this great event and for making us feel safe,” Halep concluded.’
