Former World No.1 Karolina Pliskova will lock horns with Romanian Star Sorana Cirstea in the first round of the Abu Dhabi Women’s Tennis Open 2021 on Wednesday.

The Czech tennis ace Karolina Pliskova might begin the 2021 season to fulfil her long-time dream of winning a Grand Slam title because of her new coach.

The 2016 US Open runner-up recently teamed up with a famous coach Sascha Bajin, who guided World No.3 Naomi Osaka to win a title at the 2018 US Open and the 2019 Australian Open.  

There will be no surprise if World No.6 wins a title of the season curtain removing event due to her past year’s results. Pliskova clinched three titles in her last four appearances at the Brisbane International, which usually occurs at the beginning of the new season.   

Karolina finished the 2020 season with a WTA singles title and a little disappointment in the middle of the pandemic, but she will look to have a great season in 2021.

On the other hand, a month ago, Former World No.21 Sorana Cirstea claimed her first singles title in five years at W100 Dubai after defeating seeded players Anna Blinkova, Barbora Krejčíková, Polona Hercog, and Kateřina Siniaková. 

While Cirstea is currently ranked 71st globally, she will try to become a top 50 player in the 2021 season.

Karolina Pliskova vs Sorana Cirstea: Head-To-Head 

Third-seeded Karolina Pliskova and unseeded Sorana Cirstea met twice in the WTA Tour so far. While the Czech won a match at the 2014 Pattaya City Open in the three sets, Romanian claimed a straight-set victory at the 2017 Beijing Open.
