American teenager Coco Gauff made her WTA tour main draw debut at the 2019 Miami Open as a wildcard entrant. However, the host now begins this year’s campaign as a seeded player. She was seeded 31st position in the singles main draw.
The 17-year-old from Delray Beach will lock horns with Latvian Anastasija Sevastova in her opening round encounter on 25th March at Grand Stand, Miami Garden, Florida.
Coco Gauff vs Anastasija Sevastova: Preview
2021 is a wonderful season for American so far. Gauff bowed out early from the Abu Dhabi Open, Gippsland Trophy and especially the Australian Open. She then reached her first-ever WTA 500 semifinal at the Adelaide International in the last week of February after four consecutive three-set victories.
Earlier this month, Coco Gauff made her maiden WTA 1000 quarter-final at the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships. However, she will look forward to continuing her tremendous form in her back yard.
On the other hand, a 30-year-old has not played her best tennis since WTA Tour returned last year, despite her quarterfinal run at the Adelaide International last month. The four-time tour-level title winner will seek to bounce back on the United States hardcourts, where she has her best career records.
Coco Gauff vs Anastasija Sevastova: Head-To-Head
The Miami Open third round spot clash will be the second meeting between these contestants. They met for the first time at the 2020 US Open second round, where Sevastova defeated Gauff after dropping a set. Latvian leads American 1-0 in their head-to-head series.
Coco Gauff vs Anastasija Sevastova: Prediction
According to recent records, Coco Gauff undoubtedly is a favourite to win a second round match against Anastasija Sevastova. Needless to say that Gauff’s outstanding form will force her opponent to make faults.
Sevastova is best known for her top 10 victories and her semifinal run at the 2018 US Open. The former World No.11 will absolutely use her experience to try to capture a set from a rising star. Notably, Latvian overcame Serbian Olga Danilovic in the three sets before reaching the second round.
Match Prediction: Coco Gauff to win in the two sets.
