World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka reached this season’s second consecutive semi-final at the United States Open 2021. In the quest for maiden Grand Slam, Belarusian stalwart will lock horns with Canadian rising star Leylah Annie Fernandez for a championship match spot in New York.

The 19-year-old from Montreal made her Grand Slam debut after stunning three seeded players like No.5 seed Elina Svitolina, No.16 seed Angelique Kerber, No.3 seed Naomi Osaka in Flushing Meadows.

However, Aryna Sabalenka will meet Leylah Annie Fernandez for the first time in the WTA Tour. Their head-to-head series is 0-0.

When asked about lefty Fernandez’s semifinal showdown in a post-match interview, Sabalenka said, “I was following her games. Yeah, she’s playing well, moving well. I would say it’s nothing to lose for her. She’s a great player. She’s fighting for every point.”
