Former World No.1 Simona Halep has announced unfortunate news that she will not defend her title at the Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships 2021, scheduled from 7th to 13th March.
After nearly four months of hiatus, the 29-years-old tennis sensation from Romania began her 2021 season at the Australian Open summer series last month.
Having an intention to win a Grand Slam title on hard court surface, Halep exited from the first major event of the season after a quarterfinal loss against Serena Williams.

Followed by the Down Under tour, Simona Halep was committed to playing at Qatar Total Open and Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships, a defending champion.
After withdrawing from Doha’s WTA 500 event, World No.3 has now pulled out from Dubai’s WTA 1000 tournament due to a health concern.
“Unfortunately, I am not feeling 100 per cent in my lower back, and I have made the tough decision to withdraw from @DDFTennis,” Halep wrote on Twitter Thursday.

A woman from Constanta has won 22 WTA singles titles. Halep especially hunted her 20th crown on Dubai hard court last year after a tight three sets(3-6, 6-3, 7-6) match against Kazakh Elena Rybakina.
Later, the thriller championship match between Halep and Rybakina was announced as the 2020 match of the year by the Women’s Tennis Association(WTA).
Halep further added, “I have great memories of winning my 20th WTA title in Dubai last year, so I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to defend my title.”
“Wishing the @DubaiDutyFree team and everyone involved a successful tournament, and I can’t wait to be back next year,” the time Grand Slam champion concluded.
There is an expectation that Simona Halep will return to the WTA Tour through Miami Open 2021, which begins on 23rd March in Southeastern Florida in the United States.
