Americans Coco Gauff and Lauren Davis will lock horns for a quarterfinal berth at the ongoing Volvo Car Open 2021 in Charleston.

Debutante Coco Gauff has had an outstanding season so far. And she has a win-loss record of 11-6. In Charleston, the teenager is a seeded player in the main draw. World No.36 has booked her place in the round of 16 following a three-set(4-6, 6-1, 6-4) win over Liudmila Samsonova. 

Gauff took exactly two-hour to send the 22-year-old powerful Russian for packing things. And she fired eight aces and converted six out of the ten breakpoints on a green clay surface. Notably, the No.14 seed dismissed Bulgarian veteran Tsvetana Pironkova in straight sets(6-3, 6-0) in her opening round match.

On the other hand, Lauren Davis has had a rough season, and a quarter-final run at the Abierto de Guadalajara is her best performance so far. But, Davis’s Volvo Car Open 2021 story is different. 

Before reaching the third round, she upset No.2 seed Sofia Kenin in the three sets(4-6, 6-3, 6-4). It was her second victory against a No.4 player in the WTA ranking. In addition to this, Lauren defeated compatriot Madison Brengle without dropping a set(6-4, 6-2) in her first-round match.

The upcoming round of 16 clash will be the first-ever meeting between the Americans Coco Gauff and Lauren Davis in the WTA Tour.
