In a do-or-die encounter, Aryna Sabalenka will lock horns with Maria Sakkari at the WTA Finals 2021. Most importantly, Sabalenka leads Sakkari 4-1 in their head-to-head series. Nevertheless, Belarusian has showered praise on Greek.
In the year-end championship event, Sabalenka and Sakkari defeated Iga Swiatek and fell to Paula Badosa. As a result, the winner of the upcoming battle will qualify for the semifinal.
“I’m really happy that I have this chance to get through this group,” Sabalenka said after the Swiatek clash in Guadalajara.
When asked about the Sakkari showdown, Sabalenka explained, “Maria is a tough opponent. She’s a great fighter. It’s always great matches against her. It’s always a big battle. I’m just really looking forward to it. I’m really happy that I have this chance.”
She further added, “I’ll just do my best. I’ll just bring everything I have on the court. No matter what, I will fight. I’ll not make the same mistake as I did in the first match. This time I will never give up again.”
